Meet our Associate Editor: Doug Garfinkel

Doug Garfinkel is a business educator, financial writer and bargain hunter. His writing taps into his education in business and finance and his teaching experience to help consumers understand complex financial concepts. 


Doug earned a  Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) from the University of Michigan and an MBA from Duke University. He studied economics, financial decision making and consumer behavior. His formal training includes Financial and Managerial Accounting, Corporate Finance, Financial Management, Investing, Macroeconomics and Microeconomics, Marketing and Consumer Behavior. 


Doug specializes in managing high-performing personal finance, retirement and related websites.  The sites he manages generate over $2 Million per year in revenue by attracting millions of qualified visitors and educating them on serious and important financial topics.


Aiming to spread his knowledge and inspire students, he spent over 15 years teaching business, finance, and economics at both the high school and college levels. His classroom experience gave him a strong appreciation for teaching challenging financial topics in easy to understand language. He taught a wide variety of business courses including Accounting, Personal Finance, Investing,  Economics and Marketing. 


Doug spent over 10 years working for sweepstakes and promotions companies, including Publishers Clearing House.  Through this experience, he developed a deep understanding of how promotional programs and consumer reward opportunities operate, which he passes on to his readers. Whether it’s negotiating a car deal or comparing grocery prices, he loves sharing his approach to saving money. 


When he’s not researching consumer trends or writing about business and personal finance, Doug enjoys playing the drums and kayaking.
